My father is really angry at me is what i did really stupid?

From your description of what happened it doesn't sound to me as if you were negligent. You shouldn't be chastised for someone else's dishonesty/thievery. A person should be able to set something down right in front of them and not have somebody steal it. It's not as if you put your phone down and walked away. Nothing justifies taking stuff that is not yours. It always surprises me when the police can't even be bothered to take a report about a crime Your father mistakenly placed his frustration and anger at your feet, possibly because he can't yell at the person who committed the crime. It sounds to me like you are doing the responsible thing by paying for the replacement phone, so it would be nice if your dad could cut you some slack. You don't sound stupid or like you were "looking for trouble". Sometimes stuff just happens.
